Luigi "Gino" Macaluso

Luigi Macaluso (1948-2010) is of Turinese origin, and, in parallel with his architectural studies which he completed in 1974, he began a career in motor racing which would take him to victory in the European rallying championship in 1972.

From 1975, he became interested in watchmaking, and entered the service of the Italian subsidiary of a big Swiss watchmaking group. He worked all the way up to the post of director. In 1982, he founded his own watch distribution company, which soon became Girard-Perregaux's official importer in Italy. From 1989, he entered the Brand's Board of Directors. Three years later, he became the owner.

With him at the wheel, the Brand has become one of the essential players in top-end watchmaking. It has been the great investments made by Luigi Macaluso in the Manufacture, particularly in the field of research and development, which have ensured Girard-Perregaux this key role in Swiss haute horlogerie.
